Colin Powell Backs Obama for President
Over the weekend General Colin Powell, of Gulf War and GWBush Term 1 fame, endorsed Barack Obama for President of the United States.
Enough said? Almost. Some might merely dismiss the endorsement as one black man voting fir another black man. Fortunately both of these men are much more than their skin color. For staunch conservative Republican Powell to back Obama tells us a great deal about Senator Obama AND Senator McCain. Let’s not forget that Powell was the Army general that invaded Iraq following their invasion of Kuwait along with General Scwarzkoff. This is the same conservative Republican that, once deciding not to run himself, joined President Bush’s cabinet as Secratary of State, is a 4-star general, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and former White House national security advisor.
This endorsement signals the feeling, even among conservatives, that Sen. McCain will continue Bush/Cheney’s catastrophic policies. It also signals the belief that Barak Obama is the right man for the most important job in the world. This is a belief not taken lightly by one of the most highly regarded men that has ever served the U.S. government and military. This tells us that Powell believes Obama’s plans for Iraq are the right ones. It tells us that Powell believes Obama to be the best hope for our foreign policy. It tells is that Obama’s plans for us domestically outshine those of his opponent, McCain.
It also tells us that this race is all but wrapped up. Hey. Joe the Plumber. Take that!
